3 Reasons to STOP Ignoring Compressed Air Filters

A facility with a compressed air process has a tendency to assume everything is working properly until an inevitable issue stops everything. Focusing on the filters is increasingly more important in processes today because of regulations, safety standards, and efficiency with energy and tolerances. Taking a proactive approach now can prevent major issues in the future.

The first thing to consider are industry and local regulations that the process must operate under. In many cases, safety or quality issues can lead back to a failed filter that has been used improperly (whether it be fit, form, function or as simple as change out procedures) and can lead to costly brand, product and process problems.

To ensure this will not happen in your facility, consult with your maintenance and reliability team to review if the supplier is providing integrity tested, traceable filters and they meet all requirements.

The second reason explains how your filters directly impact your bottom line. The majority of today's processes have a substantial number of mechanical devices using compressed gas. It is imperative that these devices have small tolerances to be as efficient as it was originally designed.

Selecting the best filter for each application will provide best efficiencies, optimum filter life and prevent unexpected failures. The cost of a process failure results in lost production time, unscheduled shutdown and potential equipment failure. Having a process surveyed by a consultative filtration expert can help eliminate potential failures down the road.

The third and most eye opening reason is the amount of utility cost reduction there is when optimizing the filtration application. This is based on the increased differential pressure operating cost  eventually exceeding the cost of filter replacement. This allows the process to perform at its peak while maximizing filtration usage. Monitoring changes in differential pressure and service time ensure optimal value and performance of the process.

Next time you are reviewing your process, quality, reliability or cost; remember to consider our filtration selection. Taking a proactive approach can prevent major issues in the future.
